Don't Stop Believing: Failure vs. Formation

Updated: Dec 10, 2019

“Don’t stop believin', hold on to that feeling, streetlights, people….”

Cheesy as it may be, those were the lyrics that immediately came to mind when I came across this mural while exploring Lawrenceville with my husband, Morgan, one Saturday afternoon.

Why? Because, this past winter & spring, I came so close to not believing anymore. Not in God altogether, but rather, in His promises for me. You see, after 8 years of striving after what I thought was a God-given dream – I was left completely physically, mentally, & spiritually burned out with minimal results to show for my efforts.

It was in that season of burnout then that I felt God nudging me to trust Him in a new way. To follow Him down a different path. A path I never would have imagined for myself 15, 10, or even 5 years ago.

To consider that what I had perceived as failure was actually formation. The refining of character. A necessary ending setting the stage for a new beginning.

It was then He started to plant new seeds of hope and vision in my heart for a ministry focused on speaking truth and life to a world that is hungry for God.

Perhaps, you are going through a similar season. A season when it’s hard to hold onto hope. When you feel tired and weary. If so, know you are not alone. But, don’t stop believing. Instead, take your struggles & doubts to Jesus. He’s big enough to handle them, and He has the encouragement you seek.

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” -Galatians 6:9
